How to use the single light to play with the turntable to take six light positions of the portrait?

The content of this time is people's favorite studio portraits.
With a lamp, you can control the light and let it serve you. Don't think about playing with the lamp so complicated and difficult.
Today I'm going to share with you how to use different light positions to take pictures of different styles with a lamp.
1. Smooth F4.01/200s ISO 200 layout1.Shun Guang
Smoothing is the most special optical bit, and also my favorite optical bit. Especially when I use a spotlight projector to shoot portraits, I often put the projector against the lens. As in the black-and-white segmentation of the above image, it is taken directly by the light distribution.
The position of smooth light can keep the shape of light as unchanged as possible, and will not cause uneven illumination of light to the main body due to distance and attenuation when other light positions occur. F5.61/200s ISO 100 optical layout
But I found that in addition to the special usage mentioned above, there are still some misunderstandings about the smooth light in ordinary shooting. In fact, I used to be the same, always feel that the effect of smoothing out will be very flat, the concept itself is not wrong.
Compared with other light bits, smoothing is not the most stereoscopic light. But it is also true that, with a soft light source, it can maximize the modification of skin defects. It has relatively low requirements for equipment and technology, and can be said to be the most easy to get started and master the light. F1.21/640s ISO 100 optical layout
It doesn't even need a flash, and it's totally okay to use natural light. In this picture, I use the balcony floor window as a huge light source to allow climbers to stand at the edge of the shadows with a slightly farther background.
The advantage of this method is that it can get soft light, and the light ratio between characters and backgrounds can also be pulled apart, which makes climbing more prominent in the picture. And smoothing can also show the color of the goods very well. But if that's all, then smoothness would be very common.
But the reason why I say many people have misunderstandings about smoothness is that smoothness can also show three-dimensional sense with the change of attachment and angle. F5.61/200s iso100 optical layout
It's also smooth, but I used a radome for this picture. Regarding the particularity of radome, there is no more expansion here, otherwise it will be the depth of two articles. It can be seen that without the special use of deepening and fading to highlight the contour of the face, the shadows on the cheekbones and cheeks climbed in this picture are more obvious than before. The stereo sense of the five senses is also stronger than the first picture at the beginning.
It can be said that smoothing is easy to get started and difficult to master. Because it has too many changes, including changes in height and angle, it will be converted into the top light. This will be mentioned later in the article.
2. Parallel light F1.21/200s ISO 1002.
Side lighting is also a very easy to get started and more pleasant light than smooth light, but the effect of change is not as diverse as smooth light. This determines that its lower limit is almost the highest in the so-called optical bit, but the upper limit can not exceed the smooth light. But when I need to simulate natural light, the side light is still my favorite light spot. F1.21/25s ISO 100 optical layout
These pictures were taken by me and Climbing while traveling. It seems just lucky to catch the best light. In fact, it was already 7:30 p.m., plus the rainy season, the sky was drizzling. Don't talk about the sunset, because there is no light on the beach, even focusing is very difficult.
But as long as the flash is placed a little farther away, usually about 5 meters, plus a filter, you can easily get a man-made and stable sunset, even in cloudy and rainy days.
3. Side light F4.01/125s ISO 1003.Side light
The bigger the angle between the light and the lens, the heavier the shadow of the characters, and the dramatic effect that follows. Side light and side light are suitable for taking oil painting style light. Because hundreds of years ago, those portrait artists also used this light to create. F 4.01/25s ISO 100 optical layout
The difference between the two is that the side light does not require the person to cater specifically to the light, but the side light does. Otherwise, it is easy to photograph the face of Yin and Yang. If you shoot a man, you can actually create different characters.
But when shooting women, most girls still want their photos to look more beautiful. So the pose and orientation of the characters need extra attention at this time.
4. Reverse Side Light F3.51/200s ISO 400 Distribution Map4.Side light
Side backlight is mostly used as the main light in contour light or human body photography, but not in conventional subjects. This photo is the only one I have ever taken. It's only taken with a side backlight.
But even so, there is a small routine for this spot, which is to let the model side to the lens, then find a dark background to contrast, and finally measure the light according to the brightness. It can produce a beautiful line of five senses, but it's easy and boring to take too many pictures. F1.21/60s ISO 100
But there's another special thing about side-backlighting: it can photograph particles in the air. Smoke or water droplets can be clearly illuminated.
5. Reflective F5.61/200s ISO 100 layout5.Backlight
For demonstration purposes, I only used a background light as the main light for shooting. Background C is my DIY 1.2*2.4m flexible screen. If you need more, you can also buy a cheap soft cloth or useless large sheets on Taobao. But there will be more bias in color temperature. Then the flash A is placed behind the background, facing a huge reflector made of two 1*2m foam panels, or white wall instead.
Put two white foam boards in front of the model to fill the front. So the whole light is very soft. However, because only one lamp is used, the characters can not leave the background too far, otherwise there will be too little light in the front. Close proximity, easy to overexpose the edge contour, is the need for careful adjustment. Usually I darken the front slightly to ensure that the outline is exposed and then brighten up later.
6. Toplight F5.61/200s ISO 100 layout6.
In the beginning, I talked about the particularity of the smooth light. Many times, the smooth light and the top light are not so distinct. Maybe a little past the light is the top light, and a little back is the light. And the top light is sometimes called "stage light". Students who have had similar shooting experience will remember that if they do not make special adjustments, the effect of this light is usually very poor.
One of the most important points is that the shadows in the eye sockets and pouches are too heavy. The acne on the forehead was completely exposed. But if you let the model cater to the light, the effect will be completely different. First of all, the problems mentioned above are remedied by orientation and no longer exist.
Secondly, because of the relationship between distance, attenuation and irradiation range, we can get completely different effects from other light. But in general, it is the same as side backlighting, because it is not suitable for long-term shooting as the main light because of more limitations, and it is easy to be tedious to shoot more.
For those of you who are learning about light, I would suggest that you start with the side light first. Because whether it's a studio shoot or a field shoot, it's a flash or natural light, if you have an assistant to play the reflector, if the camera and lens are advanced, this light level can easily take good pictures.
After mastering some experience, then turn to the smooth light. For other light positions, after understanding the basic shape and effect, it should be avoided to make them the main light.
Above is the basic principle of common light level and its shooting routine.
