Why are these manuscripts, in fact, just to let you have a specific quantitative concept of street sweeping, in which I have experienced street sweeping for nearly a year, so the content and maps are only for reference, not academic significance, if there are wrong parameter concepts, please refer to them as appropriate.
First, what is street sweeping? It is a term on the forum, referring to taking a camera to any street to capture, its object is in the street, can be people, things or street scenery, shooting people is only one kind of street sweeping, lighting, pets, still life, transportation and so on can actually be used to sweep the street. Here are some misunderstandings about street sweeping:
Generally speaking, street sweeping is a kind of aimless shooting by friends in groups during the period of March 5. It is very difficult for such street sweeping to have successful works. First of all, the shooter's ontology is too objective. It is reasonable that the more ordinary the shooter's ontology is, the less likely it will be to attract the attention of others. And it's hard for a group of people to make people pay attention to the shooting of long guns and short guns. So I personally think it's better to control the number of people sweeping the streets below three. In fact, one person is the best. There are many pictures you want to shoot, but the peers also want to shoot. When two people raise the camera at the same time, it's like hunting. When the first man finds his prey, he does not have time to shoot, but the second hunter who is driven away scares the prey away. But I also understand that many people are afraid that a person would not dare to shoot or fear that he would not be able to produce successful works. In the early stage of street sweeping, we can choose some friends and colleagues who are more experienced than ourselves. One is to learn shooting skills, the other is to give some proper guidance to his shooting. At this time, we should focus on observation, not necessarily on how many pictures we take. In my opinion, every time I sweep the street, I only need to take a satisfactory picture, but in fact, it is often over budget to complete the task.
One person can sweep the street.
Equipment is not omnipotent, but no equipment is absolutely impossible. In this era of assembling equipment, a large aperture focusing lens with certain quality is the necessary basic equipment for street documentary photographers. If you don't have it, don't always complain about why you can't shoot other people's illusion, other people's aperture, other people's star. Others'taillights. If you want to do a good job, you have to use your tools first, so start saving money from now on................................................ The brand of lens may vary according to the host. I simply recommend some more suitable Street lens from the basic (because I use Canon 500D equipment, so Canon is the main lens) 50/1.8, 40/2.8, 50/1.4, 85 1.8, 35 1.4, 24 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.2 and so on. As long as you take the motion, of course, the actual shooting is as light as possible, because first street sweeping is not a long-term fixed-point shooting activity, if you take an 85L everywhere and then you will not fall in love with street sweeping, because it is too heavy, the sense of restraint is too strong. Don't underestimate 501.8. I personally don't think it's any worse than 24-702.8 in the same light. So for the street sweeper, don't believe that any lens can help you. Maybe it can help you during the day, but at night it is absolutely tormented. Many excellent works are mostly produced after dusk. Because the daylight is too strong, it is easy to destroy the artistic conception of humanistic movies, and the comparison of light at night. Beautiful, more suitable for the performance of the character's heart and scene of the hallucination.
Heavy artillery hand
Street sweeping, street sweeping, what on earth are we going to sweep? I often ask myself, because it's very common to explain what happened on a whole or regional road, or to cross the road, to be in the vegetable market, to be beggars and so on. In fact, I think that street sweeping is a record of my own experience, but it's more about the outlook of a kind of life. It is a reflection of the local folkways. So there's no need to take pictures of what you see in the street, a dog at the intersection, a pair of shoes at the windowsill, and a cyclist passing by. Of course, it's all right to take pictures, but when you need to share, you have to ask yourself, this is lying on the intersection. Does the dog have any story? Why does he lie on his stomach? If you can answer these questions, then it is meaningful to represent the object you selected, then you will have personal understanding and experience when you publish it, which is easier to arouse resonance. For example, just shooting an old man's back, so what does this reflect? Maybe many people will say, in fact, I didn't think so much when I took pictures, that is, I felt that the light was good, the pictures were good, yes, I don't deny that everyone has their own aesthetic view, but this kind of picture may be more your personal emotional reaction, but the story itself is not strong, on the contrary, if it is old. You can see and photograph people carrying lunch boxes to deliver meals to their children, so the content of this picture is enriched. Of course, this kind of matching is not everyone will click to see, so we must pay attention to the story of the picture, the best way is to make people feel directly through photos, rather than simply good light and shadow, good tone, good composition and so on.
You can compare the storyline and appeal of the next two pictures, and you can see what you should shoot more.
Hand in hand
As a street sweeper, you often encounter the problem is, you are not afraid of the other side scolding you, beating you, or even grabbing a camera? Actually, I would like to say that it is absolutely up to you to take pictures of what and how, otherwise why do other people have this reaction? Here I have to mention two other concepts, one is portrait right, the other is copyright. First of all, does street photography involve the right to portrait? The answer is yes: yes. Secondly, we need to see whether your shooting is for profit or not, and "for profit" must have two conditions at the same time: one is to use the portrait of others without my consent; the other is to use the portrait of others for profit, which violates the portrait right of others, even if the user subjectively wishes to pass the portrait of others. Use to gain economic benefits. If the above two items are achieved without the permission of the other party, the other party has the right to pursue your responsibility for infringement of rights and interests. Secondly, whether Street photographs have copyright or not, the answer is affirmative: yes. But this copyright is only your own. If you really need to publish a work, it may still involve the use of portrait rights. This should be analyzed in detail. So if you encounter someone who prevents you from taking or requests you to delete the photos in your camera, take the initiative to cooperate with the other person to delete them. In fact, nowadays, few people really do this. If you encounter it, you really can only consider yourself unlucky. At least I haven't encountered the film to be deleted yet.
Sanitation workers in high temperature
Everyone has their own different shooting preferences. In view of the current national conditions, my personal feeling is to use manual focusing M-gear (after a fixed station, wait for the subject to enter the viewing range and then shoot) or moving blind P-gear (that is, without using the viewfinder or LCD screen, purely through the prediction of the subject and focus, Direct use of cameras, both of which have the smallest impact on the environment.
Under such conditions, photographers are often mistaken for tourists or journalists to take news and ignore the sense of existence of passers-by. So why do other people shoot very clearly and I shoot very muddy? The question depends on two points. First, if you use a large aperture lens, the shutter speed is enough to determine the fate of your shooting. Second, how well you know the shooting environment or the camera parameters is necessary to use reasonable parameters in a reasonable scene. That sounds empty. Holes, but when you know the correct parameter ratio of the camera in the next window and the next street lamp, you will be able to really take a successful Street photograph by yourself. Otherwise, if you don't even know the safety shutter, you won't be able to grasp those moments.
Because each host and lens have different requirements for parameters, I can't use actual figures to explain what matches what is more reasonable. Broadly speaking, for the lens, aperture opening to the maximum is absolutely the biggest weapon to ensure the success of street sweeping. When you understand the maximum effect of aperture, you can reduce it to one or two gears appropriately. Keeping the sharpness of the film depends entirely on how well you know your lens. In addition, ISO, shutter, exposure, white balance and so on, in fact, in my opinion, there is no completely safe or reliable parameter ratio, this can only be taken by shooting, you will naturally experience more.
Knowing your host better will improve your success rate of street movies, which is part of the reason why I have been using my current 500D, because I know its performance better. Don't always ask others what head, what parameters, in fact, these data can only be used for reference under completely equal lens, camera, climate, scene conditions. Most of the data are not of reference significance. So why should we ask? The purpose of our question is to know how this effect or exposure came about, rather than to use this parameter ratio to produce the same humanistic film. This parameter will have some significance in shooting scenery, architecture, galaxy, sunrise, sunset, portraits and so on in most cases, but for documentary street photography. It doesn't mean much, so what we need to learn more is the composition and perspective of the photographer and the most important location.
Skills 1: Fixed-point shooting is that the station is located at the exit of the subway. The camera can set parameters to ensure the lowest safety shutter or slow-door effect. Then shoot the people entering and leaving the station by casting a net. Although the scrap rate may be very high, if the film output rate with flip screen is better, if it is through the LCD screen, it will be certain. Difficulty, suitable for shooting time: daytime shooting.
Similar attractions: intersections, people who generally wait for traffic lights will look and act more natural, it is easy to take unexpected pictures, dramatic will be stronger, the proportion of emergencies is high, so crossing the intersection of traffic lights can generally wait a few more to see if there are any pictures worth taking, of course, depending on the background. It's not a story. Because the moving speed of passers-by is too high, the focus of the center point should be chosen to ensure the accurate determination of the picture. Suitable shooting time: day and night shooting can be.
At bus stops, people waiting for buses play with their mobile phones or face in the window when the car starts up. At this time, they can selectively choose the right focus for story sketching. Suitable shooting time: suitable for daytime shooting.
Newspaper kiosks, the people who come and go to the kiosks are also a special group of people. Everyone who stops may be storytellers, and they can be selective about the focus. Suitable shooting time: day and night shooting can be.
Long-distance bus station or railway station square: The people with luggage suitcases are also a special group. They will be more lifelike, and the story of the festival will be stronger. The feeling of homesickness or the melancholy of lighting cigarettes is rare in the city. The focus can be according to the needs of the scene. Suitable shooting time: day and night shooting can be. Skills 2: Shooting in mobile is simply to shoot or follow the camera while walking. The background characters are not restrained. You can shoot when you see what you want to shoot (of course, there are different definitions of stories for everyone, and in principle, you are satisfied with yourself). In order to ensure the stability of the picture, even if you use blind shooting, you'd better be able to hold it. Chest or on the dining table, advertising light box, the road you know can be pre-set parameters, when the appropriate subject appears, quickly adjust the focus, raise the camera to shoot.
In order to improve the success rate of blind shooting, try to open the whole aperture as much as possible, otherwise you will regret that you can not press the shutter in many cases, then whether the mode should use M or AV or P, I would like to say that this is convenient for you. Personally, I do not recommend using M for blind shooting while moving, because sometimes the object is facing the other side. The time to shoot is really between 1 and 2 seconds. When you set the parameters to focus, the subject may be far away. This technology requires a lot of equipment and personal abilities. I believe that if you can do this, you don't need to read this post. Other AV, TV, P I think can be properly used, at any time the camera is just a tool for shooting, do not let it affect your thinking, flexible use, all settings are mainly to take pictures, rather than shooting large films. Where are so many big films filmed for you all day?
Suitable for attractions: all sections, all-weather, unlimited time.
Blind Beat in Moving
Tip 3: If two people shoot, one person can attract the attention of others. Another person shoots or shoots through the foreground person's hair, bag and leg to shoot the mid-range or long-range object. Many times, this composition will receive unexpected results. This composition will be very rare and special. And it has strong non-imitation.
Tip 4: Low position shooting means that the camera is placed on the ground and the parameters of the slow door are preset to simulate some explosive or special effects. Of course, the choice of viewfinder or blind photography depends on the site and your understanding of the composition.
We need to remind ourselves all the time that I am only a recorder, not an intruder. In my opinion, most of the time, I don't think that in a street sweeping work, when the subject's eyes are looking directly at the lens, it is a successful street sweeping film. On the contrary, I think this type of street sweeping is not very real, because it is obvious that almost no one wants to be photographed by unknown people on the street, so at this time. The reaction and manner are usually unnatural. Of course, this may vary according to the national conditions. For the people of the heavenly dynasty, most of them will frown, cover their faces, bow their heads, be mad, etc. For foreigners, there may be a kind smile or raised middle finger, and occasionally there will be frown doubts. I believe that all those who have participated in street photography will encounter more or less the above situation. Then a successful work must have a clear time, place, person, event, and the position of the photographer itself should be the third party's perspective, similar to the protagonist in CS. Instead of shooting face-to-face with the subject in most cases, the characters may be clear, but lack storytelling. Robert Capa, a field photographer, has a famous saying: "If you don't think your photos are good, get closer to them." This is really worth learning. Close shot means using a lens with a shorter focal length to obtain a greater depth of field and clarity and to capture a vivid and moving scene.
Routine Interpretation of Common Nouns in Street Sweeping
Blind shooting: The concept of blind shooting is not blind shooting, which requires a lot of practice and accumulated experience. Experienced people, shooting success rate can reach more than 80%. Even when shooting, we can consider composition and put the main body on the well-shaped line. Those with higher technical level can also adjust the composition by feeling after focusing. In other words, experienced blind photographers, although not directly through the camera to observe the subject, have actually completed the picture in mind. Of course, this can not be done overnight, before appropriate armed themselves from equipment to lens, familiar with their own lens and viewing range, and then bold start to try blind shooting! M: It means that all parameters can be preset manually on the camera, including ISO, shutter, exposure, aperture, white balance and so on. This requires a higher level of personal ability, beginners do not have to learn how to use it. Long exposure: Long exposure is a way of selecting slow shutter (long exposure time). The advantage is that the dark scenery can be photographed more clearly, according to different parameters ratio can achieve dynamic pictures such as scenery, reality, virtual people and so on. P: Simply speaking, using PHOTOSHOP and other tools to modify photographs, then how much is P too, including cutting, synthesis, grinding, liquefaction, using layers, mask, etc., while the simple salad curve is not called P too, any professional competition is allowed to modify the works later, here. Modification refers to the conventional indices such as toner, stretch curve, exposure and so on.
